Namibie – Botswana
Première rencontre
La Namibie s’étant sur un territoire de 824 292 km², majoritairement désertique. Elle est bordée au Nord par l’Angola et la Zambie, à l’Est, par le Zimbabwe et le Botswana, au Sud par l’Afrique du Sud et à l’Ouest par l’océan atlantique.
Sa capitale est Windhoek. En 1994, le pays comptait environs 1 560 000 habitants contre 3 100 000 en 2025.
J’ai pris un peu de temps pour vous relater ce premier voyage que nous avons fait en Afrique australe. Ce voyage avait commencé en Namibie le dimanche 13 novembre 1994. De nombreux moments se sont éffacés de notre mémoire mais nous n’avons jamais oublé la beauté et la richesse tant naturelle que géographique, historique et culturelle des quelques sites que nous avons visité. Dans ce pays, à peine indépendant, nous avions été saisi par la sérénité et la gentillesse de ce peuble, ce malgré la pauvreté et les souffrances d’un passé tumultueux.
Pour ce voyage nous étions une douzaine dont notre accompagnatrice All Ways, Edgar Kesteloot et son épouse. Sept jours pour visiter ce vaste pays, c’était peu et pourtant combien révélateur !
Jour 1 : samedi 12 /11
Tout est prêt pour le départ : passeports, billets d’avion, valises (maximum 10 kg/personnes), sac photo et sac à main ! Nous nous rendons chez mes parents pour déposer nos 4 enfants. Je suis un peu stressée de leurs laisser nos ados. et Tista qui n’a que 5 ans. Je m’assure qu’ils ont bien les numéros de téléphone des agences en Namibie et au Botswana. Quelques minutes plus tard, nous recevons un coup de téléphone de notre accompagnatrice All Ways. Elle nous annonce que notre vols AF2931 Bruxelles-Paris est annulé. Nous devons nous mettre en route très rapidement afin de prendre un car qui nous conduira à Paris Charles de Gaule. Le départ du vols AF 438 est prévu à 22 h 50.
Notre vol se passe bien, nous sommes installés à zone fumeur pour une quinzaine d’heures.

Jour 2 : dimanche 13 /11
Arrivée dans le petit aéroport de Windhoek vers 15 h. Notre groupe de 12 personnes est accueilli par les 4 guides qui nous accompagnerons tout au long de notre périple en Namibie en combi Wolkswagen.
Nous embarquons par groupe de 4 pour Otjisazu Guest Farm. Ce nom signifie ‘Le pays du bétail rouge’. L’accueil est chaleureux et convivial. Nous dînons dans le lappa puis repos mérité dans nos logements.
Otjisazu était aussi une ferme de chasse. A cette époque la Namibie accueuillait de nombreux chasseurs de trophées.

Botswana is a country with a surface area of 581,730 km2. It lies in southern Africa, landlocked between Namibia to the west and north, Zimbabwe to the east and South Africa to the south. It also shares a short border with Zambia to the north. The country is mainly covered by the Kalahari Desert, which shapes its arid and semi-arid climate.
It has a population of around 2.6 million, concentrated mainly in urban areas such as the capital Gaborone, and Francistown.
Famous for its nature reserves, Botswana is a top destination for safari enthusiasts. Moremi National Park, the Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Chobe National Park are among the country’s jewels. During the dry season, these areas are home to an exceptional density of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, etc., as well as a wide variety of birds.
Botswana’s economy is essentially based on the exploitation of its vast diamond deposits. Ranked first among African countries in terms of governance and transparency, the country is often cited as the least corrupt on the African continent.
The tourism industry helps to diversify Botswana’s economy, sometimes replacing traditional sources of income such as diamond mining and beef, and is the basis for a large number of jobs.
Central Kalahari Game Reserve
The Central Kalahari Nature Reserve takes its name from the local Tswana word “kgala”, meaning “great thirst”. The reserve covers an area of over 50,000 km2, most of which is inaccessible, particularly in the south.
In this arid landscape, you can observe large concentrations of wildebeest, oryx and springbok, and if you’re lucky, on your journey through the heart of this vast reserve, you may catch a glimpse of Kalahari black-maned lions, brown hyena and many other predators…

Botswana, from Maun to Kasane

Booking
Reservations must be made well in advance, due to the small number of camping and lodge pitches. For Botswana, you need to allow at least 12 to 13 months.
Travel insurance is compulsory for trips to Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
